Smooth New Surface Coming

One of the oldest sections of the rail trail will be repaved next spring thanks to generous grants from two sources. The four-mile section, located in Taconic State Park in Copake, has become bumpy and pockmarked over the past few decades.

Parks and Trails New York awarded a $75,000  Park & Trail Partnership Grant from the 2021 round of grants for the work. On top of that, New York State Assemblymember Didi Barrett nominated the rail trail for $125,000 in State and Municipal (SAM) funding toward the project.

The work will involve repairing holes and laying down fresh asphalt. The job, expected to take a few weeks to complete, will result in a smooth new surface.
